Maiden Lane, Camden
265 new homes and commercial spaces near King’s Cross Station.
The original build was completed in 1982 and the estate was the last in a series of housing projects built between 1965 and 1982 for the London Borough of Camden. The development is a 50/50 split of privately owned dwellings and affordable housing.
Challenge
Detailed M&E design duties were provided for the shell and core aspects, as well as the landlord’s areas and apartments. The client’s brief was to ensure the site was serviced from a combined heating energy centre, which would provide heating and hot water generation to all dwellings on the estate, whilst in turn, achieving.
Solution
The combined heat and power (CHP) energy centre, developed using advanced CHP technology, incorporates thermal storage and backup boiler power. This design ensured a reliable and comprehensive distribution system across the site. The apartments were designed with the inclusion of heat interface units for the generation of underfloor heating and HWS generation.
Outcome
Regeneration of an existing house site that provides modern and comfortable living for residents. The development complements the existing site while offering an improved energy and carbon-efficient construction giving sustainability driven by the use of on-site heat and power generation.
