BLOC Hotel, Grand Central Birmingham
Following a successful planning application, the project was a collaborative effort with Gallant Engineering to develop a complete and detailed BSRIA Stage 4 for the new hotel. The technical response for the design framework integrated the client’s core principles, branding and ethos on room quality.
Challenge
The small building footprint and difficult site opposite the newly finished Birmingham Grand Central railway station brought challenges in numerous elements of the design of the 7,000 sqm scheme hotel and office space.
Solution
Working alongside project partners, BrightSPACE Architects and structural engineers ICIS Design Ltd to develop the mechanical, electrical and technical designs for the iconic BLOC Grand Central all challenges were successfully navigated.
Outcome
The new Grand Central Hotel opened in 2021 bringing a contemporary new structure to Birmingham’s developing city centre skyline, containing BLOC office space, a combined entrance lobby and reception lounge and 227 bedrooms across 22 floors.
